I/O's Group Founder

Greets from Lord Jon Ray of Information Overide!

This little area is just to tell you about the group's founder, Lord Jon Ray

Well, it all started back in 1993 I think it was. I found this mega demo from a guy called Terkish Payne, in Oklahoma City, OK, USA. I later ran into him on a BBS I called a lot called, VDS BBS. In the chat room he told me about the works of a small demo he was working on. He also made Online BBS Games, from this lead to Future Crew's Demo "Panic." After that I ran into a demo called, "Facts of Life," by Witan. I thought about creating a demo group then, but decided to wait till I could learn more about theses fantastic images rotating and morphing around my screen and lots of funky Font scrollers.

During my later chats with Terkish Payne, I learned of songs called MODs. Since I have a natural love for music, I decided to try and make my own MODs. With little success in my early mods, I looked at other people's mods and got samples from the songs I liked. Thus, I've come to this conclusion - Better samples make a better mod. So I built a great sample library, with everything from piano/orchestra to rave beats/vocals. I then became known as "Lord Jon Ray" a new mod writer/musician on the scene. I started calling Finland once or twice and month to get the latest from Europe. For back in 1993 it was not that easy to find a real Demo support BBS in the states. If they where there they had mostly old stuff, I needed the newest I could find. During my BBS travels to Europe I learned what everyone was doing with all theses demos, they created BIG PARTIES for all the demo groups from around the world and that area to show and compete for a rank among the best demo groups of that party.

After making various mods and later on S3Ms with Future Crew's Scream Tracker 3 program, I joined a demogroup called EXCalibur based somewhere outta Virginia. I didn't really make any demos but wrote a few songs for this group. But this gave me my first feel for what a demo group was like, thanks Dark Advenger. I continued to make MOD/S3M format music and dabbed a bit with MIDIs. Till a new demo group called LIMBO in OKC, OK came to me and asked me to join their group. This group did alot of ANSI. They had learned of my ANSI work from my BBS called, "Cyber City BBS." I did a few songs/demos/ANSI for this group, but later on a local hacker group name "Brotherhood 405" came onto the scene, and the demo group went hacker group. Fights broke out between the 405 and LIMBO and all sorts of back stabbing went on. People who had made nice works of art where suddenly laughed at. This gave me the courage to make my own art for myself, regardless of what others may have thought of it. I quickly distanced myself from the LIMBO group though I kept a support area on my BBS from the early days. Later my career moved me to Japan, which is where I am today.

Today, I live in Misawa-shi, Aomori-ken, Japan. I love the asian culture, but was surprised to see how much behind the Japanese really are on computers. Just because they make most the electronics of the world, doesn't mean the main populace knows how to use them. I came to Japan in Feb. 1995, at that time there was limited to no Internet access around. I was forced to call BBSes direct long distance, my $400 phone bill was mainly what I worked for. But never the less, I kept in touch with the growing demo scene in both the US and Europe.

During my long distance chats at Future Crew's WHQ BBS (Star Port), I ran into Wog of the demo group AMEN. Later in the chat I decided to join a european group because nothing was going on over here in Japan. I joined AMEN for a few months, wrote a few songs for them a few not so good, some ok. And some I wrote for AMEN, but decided to hang on to.

As time went on, I ran into J.C. Wicks from work, later to become "Silicon Mirage" of I/O. We talked about computers which lead to demos. I was happy to meet someone American all the way here in Japan that I could talk to. At the time I was still making MODs and working on games in BASIC. I also had my BBS "Cyber City BBS" back up and running here in Japan. One night at work, me and J.C decided to come up with our own demo group, it was mainly my dream and idea. But I had J.C. help me come up with an idea for our group's name, thus he became the group's co-founder. I think it took us about 3 days to finally come up with a good name, then one night at work while kinda bored, me being a cyberpunkish type of hacker guy, I pondered, "What does the hacker culture and fellow Cyberpunks deal with?" I thought, "Information." So I had the group's name but that wasn't enough. Information stood for the Cyberpunkish culture within me (Information wants to be FREE). But that was too simple and dry of a name, so I decided to come up with the hacker side of the group to mix both the Hacker and Cyberpunk cultures together within the group's founding. What does a hacker want to do most the time when breaking into computers? He wants to override the system and gain access. Thus the word, "Overide," was added to Information to give us, "Information Overide." I misspelled the word override on purpose for the plain fact that I was overriding the word itself, clipping it down to Overide. It also made the group unique for people searching for it with the special misspelling. The group was only a few weeks old when I sent out messages via BBSes for people interested in joining a new demo group and I gave what areas the group needed. Only a hand full of replys came back mostly none of them knew what a demo group was. Only one that I remember was from a guy called, "Robert Bradley." He was down near Tokyo, an American living over here as I. He said he was a coder and might be interested in joining the group. He did and the group got its real main coder. Another coder joined but never showed anything but talk about demos. So we had to let him go.

Later Rob choose the name, "Inindo" it was a name he had used alot in the MUDs he plays and programs. And today there is works for an Information Overide MUD, check this site later for details.
